Our services

KB Structures provides specialist structural risk assessment and consultancy services for residential buildings.

We support property owners, managing agents and dutyholders in understanding, managing and reducing structural risk – from Building Safety Act-aligned Structural Risk Assessments to targeted structural engineering advice for existing assets.

Our work is evidence-based, proportionate, and focused on real-world decision-making across UK building stock.

Structural Risk Assessments

Our Structural Risk Assessment (SRA) service is designed specifically for higher-risk residential buildings (HRBs) and supports dutyholders in meeting the structural evidence requirements of the Building Safety Regime. The assessment follows a proven, proportionate methodology aligned with recognised industry standards and the expectations of the Building Safety Regulator, providing clear, defensible insight into structural risk within residential built environment.

We have delivered SRAs across a range of non-complex and complex residential buildings, combining desktop review, site inspection and professional judgement to identify credible structural hazards, assess risk, and recommend appropriate next steps. Our approach is deliberately pragmatic: focused on enabling timely decision-making rather than producing theoretical or design-led reports. We emphasize the speed of response and efficient report delivery where dutyholders are working to regulatory deadlines.

Every SRA is led, undertaken or formally assured by a competent Chartered Structural Engineer with appropriate experience of occupied residential buildings and higher-risk environments. This ensures the resulting report provides robust, auditable structural evidence suitable for inclusion within a Building Safety Case, while remaining proportionate to the building, its construction, and its risk profile.

For a detailed explanation of our methodology and answers to common questions, please see the full SRA page.

Structural Consultancy

Alongside Structural Risk Assessment, we provide targeted structural consultancy for situations where clients require expert advice on specific elements of a building, or where a full SRA is not required at that time. This often includes responding to side-requests arising from routine inspections, asset management reviews or emerging concerns, where a focused, professional opinion is needed to support informed decision-making.

Our consultancy work is best described as forensic structural engineering. We assess a wide range of issues across the built environment – from the condition and adequacy of external fire escape staircases, to concerns relating to Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC), age-related structural deterioration, and non-standard or legacy forms of construction. Each commission is approached with a clear understanding of how buildings are actually used, altered and maintained over time.

We bring extensive experience across UK building stock, encompassing both modern and ageing residential buildings, as well as commercial properties. All consultancy work is undertaken or overseen by UK Chartered Structural Engineers, ensuring that advice is technically robust, proportionate, and grounded in professional accountability.
